Band and Choir

Winter Concert

December 18, 2017 was an eventful night at the New Franklin gymnasium. The director of the band and choir for that evening was Mrs. Lisa Dobbs.

The high school band joined forces with the 8th grade as they played, “A Song of Goodbye” written by Andrew Glover. The second song they played was “And All the Bells Shall Ring” written by Rob Romeyn. The final song played by the high school was “Sparks.”  It was an incredible performance

The 7th grade was up next with "Crestwood" by Nancy Seward, "Summit March" by Harold Bennett, and "All Through the Silent Night" arranged by Mark Williams. These three pieces of music really showed how hard they worked and how much they loved the music.

Finally, the 6th grade played  "Rockin' The Blues" by Sandy Feldstein and John O'Reilly, "Reign" by Robert W. Smith, and "Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree" by Johnny Marks, arranged by Mike Story. These festive songs just made the winter concert a ball as the well known songs were played.

To end the evening the choir sang "Since Robin Hood" by Thomas Weelkes, "I'm Gonna Lift My Voice and Sing!" by Lon Beery, and "Praise Ye The Lord of Hosts" Camille Saint-Saens. The girls choir sang "Dance On My Heart" by Allen Koepke and "O Holy Night" arranged by John Leavitt. The girls surprised the audience with their musical abilities, and by using candles during one song.

Art Club

As a dedicated member of The New Franklin Art Club, I have been a part of our little artist community for three years. Art Club is a club for those who love art, want an extracurricular activity, or are in band/choir and cannot be part of an art class. The members of Art Club are often seen doing fundraisers at annual events in their community, such as Santa Fe Days. Recently all of the Art Club members joined together with the help of a few art classes and created clay bowls for The Empty Bowls Project; the dinner to go along with the cause will be held at New Franklin Food Pantry. Along with helping with benefits and fundraisers, Art Club members also get to enjoy creating things they may not get to in art class or at home; such as the coffee filter flowers we made recently or practicing painting/drawing techniques.

Art Club members also have the choice throughout the school year and even into the summer to enter their personal artwork into contest to have them judged and possibly win ribbons or trophies. I always enjoy taking field trips to art museums and fun locations at the end of the year such as The City Museum in St. Louis, Missouri or the Daum Museum of Contemporary Art in Sedalia, Missouri. The director of Art Club, Mrs. Fadra Hepner, is a creative woman who cares for her students and is always full of new and exciting ideas to try. People may expect a very serious atmosphere at our meetings, but it is the complete opposite; everyone is always laughing and playing around. I hope this encourages more students in sixth-twelfth grade to join because being a part of Art Club is an amazing experience that I will miss once I graduate.
